The second step to take in case of whining noise from the transmission is to check the filter on an automatic transmission. The transmission filter is located inside the crankcase. Drain the transmission fluid with a sizable wrench. After that, unbolt the crankcase. Once the crankcase is out, check if there are metal shavings. Automatic transmission noises can be minor or serious; it really depends on where it's coming from. Automatic transmission noises are often very different than engine noises. They're usually constant, either a whine or growl during transmission operation. Sometimes you get the occasional tick or thump as well. 2006 AC V6 4x4 SR5. Mostly stock work truck mods.
