The second step to take in case of whining noise from the transmission is to check the filter on an automatic transmission. The transmission filter is located inside the crankcase. Drain the transmission fluid with a sizable wrench. After that, unbolt the crankcase. Once the crankcase is out, check if there are metal shavings.
