I have a Rheem hot water heater model 21VP50E-1P and from time to time the burners don't always come on. the pilot light is not designed to always be on but i have an intermittent problem where the it sparks but the gas burner does not click on. it does not happen all the time; that is what is so confusing. Grabbing a manual to see what I have no experience with water heaters but I believe the model number should be 21VP50E-1A I couldn't find an owner's manual for it either. Very reputable company. Depending on how old it is, the part may be covered. Also look in your owners manual under the troubleshooting annex.
